Some of the best panels at SDCC are always at Zachary Levi’s Nerd HQ, and this year is no different. So far this year the panels are some of Zach’s friends and favorites, including Nathan Fillion, John Barrowman, and Felicia Day. Some of the ones I’ll be watching that are still to come: the Orphan Black panel (the 2014 OB panel was OFF THE HOOK) and (SQUEE) an American Gods panel!!!

Come follow us on Instagram! We’ll be posting photos and videos this weekend from all of our PAX activities.
You may have heard that I love all shitty vampire things. Because of this I tend to hear vampiric themes where none were intended, and this happened even more frequently back when I was a young goth. In the mid-’90s I briefly played Vampire: The Masquerade and my friends and I would curate playlists of mood music for our sessions. (Actually, curating mood music and writing backstories for our characters constituted pretty much the entirety of our V:tM time—I think we only played twice.) Anyway, here’s a partial list of songs from those playlists:
After The Flesh by My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult
sample lyric: “We’ll infect your carnal mind after the flesh…”
The Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen
sample lyric: “So soon you’ll take me up in your arms / Too late to beg you or cancel it though I know it must be / the killing time”
Dead Souls by Joy Division
sample lyric: “Someone take these dreams away / That point me to another day / A duel of personalities / They stretch all true realities”
Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde
sample lyric: “O you where a vampire and now I am nothing at all”
Devil Inside by INXS
sample lyric: “Here comes the woman with the look in her eye / Raised on leather with flesh on her mind”
Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMann
sample lyric: “Temptation heat beats like a drum / Deep in your veins, I will not lie…”
Lullaby by The Cure
sample lyric: “Quietly he laughs and shaking his head / Creeps closer now / Closer to the foot of the bed”
One Caress by Depeche Mode
sample lyric: “I’m shying from the light / I always loved the night / And now you offer me eternal darkness”
Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones
sample lyric: “I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes / I have to turn my head until my darkness goes”
Moon Over Bourbon Street by Sting
sample lyric: “It was many years ago that I became what I am / I was trapped in this life like an innocent lamb”
What songs would you add to this list? Put your suggestions in the comments!
- Astronomers pay tribute to Leonard Nimoy by naming asteroid after him
- Executive producer Joseph Gordon-Levitt discusses the progress of his Sandman film
- Daniel Cerone, executive producer for Constantine, officially pronounced the show dead
- This dude spent $50k to turn his basement into an Elder Scrolls-themed wonderland
- Jon Bernthal (aka Shane from The Walking Dead) confirmed to play Punisher on second season of Daredevil (Related, here’s an interview I did with Bernthal a few years back.)
- And speaking of Marvel’s Netflix series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones has a new title
- And speaking of casting, there’s a rumor that Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Wickett the Ewok in The Force Awakens
- In other adorable, furry news: Cookie Monster is chased by a giant dinosaur cookie in this hilarious Sesame Street parody of Jurassic Park.
- The trailer for the film adaptation of Andy Weir’s The Martian dropped, and it looks amazing. However Nerds of Color reports that this film is another in a long string that erases its Asian characters, which is very disappointing.
- And finally, show your support for Alison Hendrix, school trustee nominee. Good for you, good for your sestras.
Oh, LOST, I have such complicated feelings about you! Our relationship ended on such a terrible note, but I have so many happy, warm memories.

Here’s a few photos from Guardians of the Sexy, a nerdlesque extravaganza co-produced by Seattle’s Professor of Nerdlesque, Jo Jo Stiletto, and Emerald City Comicon. The mission: “Defending the sexiness of all nerds regardless of gender, sexual orientation, body type, race or ability. We are all the Guardians of the Sexy.” Funny, gleeful, sultry, and sometimes moving, GotS was just an amazing performance. I wish you all could have been there.

Here’s some fun highlights from the celebrity panels I attended:
I’ve never watched Stargate SG-1, and I bowed out of Sanctuary pretty early on so I really didn’t have an opinion about Amanda Tapping going in to this panel, but the friend I attended with on Saturday was a fan so we went to hear her talk. And I’m so glad! Tapping is funny and approachable and had lots of stories from the sets of her various projects (including the time she got blown up on the set of SG-1). She and her daughter are big Whovians and she fangirled about getting to meet Alex Kingston. She also said she’d love to play either River Song or the Doctor.
Many of us know her best as River Song on Doctor Who, which she acknowledged immediately by greeting the audience with, “Hello, sweeties!” Originally asked to be the headmistress of the adipose, Kingston turned it down because she had another job. “Thank God!” she said, because then she was later asked to fill this much more memorable role. Kingston said that writer Stephen Moffat knew River’s arc from her first appearance in the episode “Silence in the Library.” Kingston’s daughter, Salome, was celebrating her 14th birthday on Saturday, so Kingston brought her out on stage and the entire audience joined in singing “Happy Birthday.”

GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS!!!! Alan Tudyk is creating a web series called Con Man with Nathan Fillion about two guys that used to be on a sci-fi tv show that got cancelled before its time! (Sound familiar?) And Seth Green, James Gunn, Felicia Day, and Gina Torres will star in it as well! They’re funding it in part through Indiegogo. I will let them explain:
OK, Browncoats, I know we’re all hyperventilating a little bit. Let’s tell everyone we know and make sure this happens! Visit the Con Man campaign on Indiegogo to see the perks you receive with helping to fund the series (besides the obvious perk of seeing this show actually get made).
